Vision

Inspired by Pirates, our group has created a symbol relating to our inspiration! Including a woven rope bag, and a pirate themed tank top and shorts.

For the tank top we added colored zippers and ribbons because it added a pop of color. Also the color made it less formal. Then we drew a bird, our logo on the back of the shirt. For the woven bag we used rope because sailors and pirates use rope a lot. Also we used orange for the bag because it reminded us of the beach. On the sides of the shorts we put a cool ribbon with a design on it.

X Marks the Spot

We carefully stitched these X-es

Shorts

Sewed hooks and eyes down the sideseams to match the use of zippers as trim in the shirt. Deciding if we should roll the hem and sew with Xs or leave it raw...which is more pirate?

Brand Identity

Lucas drew this bird on the back of our finished shirt to reinforce our original concept.

Pirate Bag

The finished Bag with our label inside and hangtag explaining how it was made and why.

Carefully

hand-sewing the Xs requires a lot of hand-eye coordination and patience.

Adding Color

We used scrap ribbon and zippers to create out trim. We pinned them at different heights before sewing them on with X stiches.

Sewing Lining

Design requires a can-do spirit and problem solving skills. Since the rope would allow things in the bag to fall through we had to create a lining. For the outside of the bag we used our swatches from the first day which we made from our old t-shirts and natural dyes from food waste. The color is a golden orange.

Hat?

I thought the rope weaving would make a cool hat but then I started playing around with different ideas and we created a bag with it instead.

Experiment!

After learning to weave t-shirt yarn I wanted to try it with this rope from the scrap pile. The rope goes with our inspiration. I wasn't sure how if it would work but Beatrice helped me figure out a pattern and it was fun experimenting and not really knowing what it would turn out like.

Inspiration

This collection is/was inspired by a picture of a pirate. The colored fringes on the shirt represent the beard and so does the material.
